Maestro Bruce Hangen and the Orchestra of Indian Hill will perform works from a variety of time periods and composers, including William Kraft’s “A Kennedy Portrait” on Sunday, January 22, 3:00 pm at Littleton High School, 56 King Street, Littleton, MA. Award-winning actor Jeremiah Kissel will be on hand as narrator for the piece. The program will also feature works by Rossini (La gazza ladra), Schumann (Symphony No. 2) and Mozart (Symphony No. 6).
“On this amazing program we connect with composers at various points in their lives. From the prodigy Mozart at age 11 to famous Rossini at 25, celebrity Schumann at 36, and living American composer William Kraft at 65 — all major composers who wrote music that will last forever,” says Hangen. He adds that Kraft’s “A Kennedy Portrait: Contextures III for Narrator and Orchestra” celebrates the all-too-short life of John F. Kennedy, who would have turned 100 this year. “So this concert is a celebration and a commemoration, a tribute and a remembrance — and through music we bring to our attentions the really wonderful contributions all have made to music and to life.”
Guest narrator Jeremiah Kissel is a thirty-five year veteran of New England’s professional stages, having performed major roles for Boston’s largest theaters, including The Huntington, American Repertory Theater, The Lyric Stage, and Commonwealth Shakespeare Company. He is the recipient of several IRNE and Elliot Norton awards, (most recently the 2014 Norton Best Actor for “Imagining Madoff”), and in 2003 was given Boston’s highest theater honor, The Elliot Norton Award for Sustained Excellence. Recent stage appearances include “Three Farces and a Funeral” opposite Alan Alda, “Hamlet” with Jeffery Donovan, “Two Gentlemen of Florence” with Edward Herrmann, “The Cherry Orchard” with Kate Burton, and last month as Tevye in The New Repertory Theatre’s “Fiddler on the Roof.”
